The stage of cancer shows how much it has grown or spread. Tests and scans reveal this. The grade of cancer describes how cancer cells look compared to normal ones. It gives an idea of how fast the cancer might grow.
Stages:
Stage 1: Cancer is small, low grade, and hasn’t spread.
Stage 2: Cancer is any grade, usually larger than stage 1 but hasn’t spread.
stage 3: The cancer is high-grade but has not spread.
stage 4: The cancer, of any grade or size, has spread.
Grades:
- Low-grade: Slow-growing, similar to normal cells, less aggressive, less likely to spread.
- Intermediate-grade: Growing a bit faster, more abnormal.
- High-grade: Fast-growing, very abnormal, more aggressive, more likely to spread.
